Re-Rooting to fix sms on my HTC Evo V

I’ve been enjoying my Evo V for just about a year now and it’s a great phone. But knowing me, I demand more out of. More than the original developers had planned. This is why I run Cyanogenmod which allows me to run a bloat-free Android 4.2.2 device. Only issue with this is the lack of updates right from the provider. (They don’t necessarily endorse the installation of custom ROMs) Due to this my phone got out of sync, or who knows what, and I wasn’t able to receive any text messages. I tried flashing back to a stock NANDROID backup that I made to allow me to update my PRL and what not but that didn’t help. After researching around I figured that my best bet to regain the ability to receive text messages would be to RUU or essentially go to a completely unrooted stock device. Well, after following a nice guide – I was one again able to receive text messages.

If it would help you, here’s a link to the RUU guide as well as a link to a rooting guide in case you need it.

ChicagoVPS Review – Was Good But Now Sucks…

I’ve had a server with ChicagoVPS for many months now. I primarily use it to host a very small Minecraft server for my friends. It’s been great for months up until now. The server has started to receive very bad disk latency to the point where even sending commands in the terminal is slow. I’m getting about 30MB/s on the drive, it use to be in the hundreds when I got it. I am also only seeing about 5-10 IOPS. I’ve contacted support and they just say it’s shared resources and that I’m SOL, they also tried to sell me dedicated hardware (which I don’t need/want). It’s sad because the server has been so great and now it’s just useless to me. Just a warning to others interested in purchasing a server from ChicagoVPS.

New Switch & Some Cable Management

My new switch I ordered arrived from eBay! It’s a cool little guy. 24 100Mbps ports plus 2 Gbps/gbic ports. Also is ‘web smart’ and lets me set vlans, mirroring, trunking, etc. (still layer two though)

New Switch. (I know, it’s a mess. I was playing around with vlans…)

Yay for cable management! I tried…

That Hole…

Too many nukes? Nah…
